Américains à Monaco

The demographic of American artists, is well represented in this year’s Art Monaco exhibition. Sharing the lounge area between SU-Art and Irreversible Projects, you will find a collaboration of artists from Florida who have taken residence next door for the week. They provide the exhibition with a funky spicy southern flavor to the scene, with colorfully encrusted fruit sculptures decorated much like the royal crown of Monaco, to goopy and dark rubber which hangs from the ceiling as an installation, to the resident alligator who gobbles up the audience in one bite made of plaster and felt. Although the booth hosts 10 artist from all differing walks of life, they have been gathered by Noor Blazekovic producer, editor of Irreversible Magazine, project and exhibition coordinator.

Across from our resident artist SU-Art’s booth, you will find New York based artist Osvaldo Mariscotti represented by Mariscotti Art. The artist has been producing art for 35 years. His creative approach is quite introverted as it is to protect the creative mind from external influences, in that sense preserving the inner sanctity of his inspiration. However, do not mistake introvert methods for lack of boldness! His latest work, produced 5 years ago, has appeared on the Art Monaco scene. A wooden box draped in black paint provides the background for the brightly and meticulously structured colorful squares. One after the other, a row of little squares interrupted by a bold larger square, all marching to the rhythm of the artist’s brush strokes.

Art Libia Bosker/ Gallery Universalis (Amsterdam, Holland)

Booth number S17 houses a collection of artists from Poland. Most notably, artist Libia Bosker (libiabosker.com) has brought them together for the Art Monaco 2015 exhibition. Bosker, originally from Rio de Janeiro (BR), and currently residing in Amsterdam (HL), has been creating her art for the last 8 years. This is her second year at Art Monaco, though she is constantly flying around the world for her exhibitions. Her first piece sold this year on the first day! The piece titled “Girl Plays” combines the styling’s of pop art meets modern and is inspired by her daughter. She went on to explain…

“The youth today is a youth that knows what she wants, she is a well educated and sure of herself…confident!”

Miami based artist Rafael Bencid has dazzled Art Monaco attendees with his mathematical master piece. The box installation, weighing 200lbs., has an aluminum frame that houses an intimate screening room for the viewer. Once inside the viewer is cocooned in lyrical piano symphony consisting of exactly 6,666 music notes, and a light show of 6,666 stop motion pictures flashing 360 degrees around the viewer. The 6 sides cube further connects with the viewer on a personal level by having a mirror above depicting the singularity and uniqueness of each persons expereience.

Attending the Art Monaco 2015 vernisage is everything one could expect of glamour, elegance and art. The venue slowly filled with elegantly dressed patrons and admirers who slowly navigated from each booth, glancing at artists’ latest pieces. Although every artists looks forward to selling their work to the highest bidder, for me, what I look most forward to is meeting my fellow creators and creative minds. Each booth holds an individuals work and story, and by getting to know the artist you can dive into what each piece of art represents and means.

I was so impressed to have met a young artiste, who at 12 years old had a lot to say with his art. Charles Gitnick’s message has reached Monaco all the way from Los Angeles. His current exhibition at Art Monaco 2015 consists of guns mounted on to canvas, which is then splattered, sprayed and shot at (with an air-soft gun filled with paint) to create the desired work of art. He draws his inspiration and motivation from the violence that takes Place in today;s world and wishes to draw awareness to this. A young artists, with a deep message to share.
